Media across the dashboard
You almost never need to open the media library to use a file. Wherever a photo, video, audio file or document is needed, the same Choose media picker appears.
How the picker works
Click Choose image, Choose from library or the thumbnail itself, depending on the screen. The picker opens with:
- a Search media box that searches your whole library by name, not just what’s on screen,
- a grid of matching files: images as thumbnails, other types as labelled icons,
- a Load more button at the bottom, so no file is out of reach, however big your library is,
- an Upload media option that uploads a file straight from the picker and selects it immediately,
- an Open media library option that opens the full library in a new tab,
- a Remove current option that clears a field that already has a file in it.
The picker is filtered to the type of file the field expects. If you try to upload the wrong type, you’ll see a message saying the file is a different media type.
Everything you upload from the picker is saved to your library, so it’s immediately available everywhere else and counts towards your storage limit.
Where you’ll find the picker
- Pages. Every image, video, gallery, carousel and slides widget in the editor, plus background images.
- Headers and footers. The header logo and the footer logo.
- Blog. A post’s featured image and its sharing image, plus the image for the blog itself.
- Products. Product thumbnails, lesson video and audio, downloadable files, podcast episodes and certificate artwork.
- Communities and dashboard. Covers and banners.
- Contacts. Profile photos.
- Branding. Your logo and favicon.
- Site details. The SEO and sharing image for your whole site.
- Email. Images in the email builder and in campaign content.
- Invoice settings. The logo printed on your invoices.
One file, many places
Because the same library serves all these places, a file uploaded for one purpose is immediately available for another. The image used as a product thumbnail is the same record you’d pick for the hero section of a page, which is why deleting it affects both places.
